Hunting has been an essential part of people lives throughout history. However, the killing of animals does not come without controversy. Arguments arise over whether hunting is ethical and if there should be a stop to the killing of wildlife. Hunting gives people the ability to be able to provide a self-sustainable supply of meat, rather than being forced to purchase the meat provided at markets. What people do not take into consideration is that the meat you are consuming is produced somewhere; wouldn’t you rather know exactly where it is coming from? With the additives and other practices used to farm meat, personally hunting the meat yourself, ensures that you are only consuming meat of worthy quality. People should become more aware of how their meat is produced, individuals assume that the quality of meat sold in stores is nutritious; this is not always the case. In 2015 alone, 21,104,848.00 pounds of meat were recalled. (FSIS 2016) Consumers expect the meat they are purchasing to be primarily grass fed animals; nevertheless, this is only for the first 6 months. When you hunt, you are killing an animal that solely relies and eats on natural substances, causing the meat to be a leaner protein and low fat which is better for your health. (Whaley 2015) Effort is required because you have to physically exert yourself in order to obtain your meat, it is not as convenient as a trip to the grocery store, but that is what makes this process more rewarding.
