Drugged, forced to drink alcohol, brainwashed into killing, while another child the same age around the world are playing with their toys with no care in the world. Everyday, children are taken from their homes, or are sold by their families for money, and forced into being a child soldier. A topic that is highly debated is whether or not child soldiers should be given amnesty or be confined in a prison for their actions. “More than 200,000 children worldwide are still being used as combatants, usually against their will.” (Gettleman, pg. 6) The reason that child soldiers are a big problem worldwide is because they are easily manipulated and there are many of them to take easily. I believe that child soldier should be given amnesty, but instead should be put into rehabilitation to cleanse their bodies of all of the drugs and alcohol in their system, then put into a program that will help them be able to go into our society. If the child soldier does not want to or can not be apart of this society they should have to do time for their crimes. This way you are giving child soldiers the chance to change their lives around if they want a fresh start. Or if the child soldier does not want to change their lives around, they can serve the times of the crime they have
