Animal testing benefits society in numerous of way that are often overlooked by the general population. To illustrate, rats and pigs are genetically similar to us and live shorter life spans. This makes it possible to test new drugs out and see the genetic effects on the animal’s offspring. It is impossible to successfully test this medical advances on humans in a short amount of time because humans do not mature or give birth as fast as animals such as rats. For instances, it was through the multiple animal testing were scientists able to discovered a way to harvest insulin for diabetics. Without insulin, it would be difficult for diabetics to break glucose level in their bloodstream and the inability to break down glucose is life threatening. A body that cannot break down his or her glucose level will start to shut down because the body lack the nutrients needed to work. In detail, animals often undergone force feeding, food deprivation, physical restraint, and inflicted wounds to determine the effects of medicine or treatment on humans.
