The Jewish Quarterback

The nation’s most highly touted high-school pocket passing recruit and current UCLA Bruins quarterback is a Jewish kid from California.

Bet you didn't see that one coming.

Josh Rosen, a 6-4, 206 pound pocket passer out of Bosco High School in Southern California is Jewish.

This Jewish kid led Bosco to a 16-0 record and a CIF Title. The Jewish prodigy threw for 3,186 yards, 35 touchdowns and a 63.6% completion rate in 2014, good enough to earn the title of best pocket passer and second biggest recruit in the country by Rivals.com.

Why?

With the exception of Bosco last year, he hasn’t played tennis competitively since junior high.

He has shined on the football field, utilizing his build and smarts to help him become the best player his town has ever seen.

“I have seen a lot of quarterbacks in my career — Mark Sanchez, Matt Leinart and Matt Barkley and some of those really, really talented guys,” Bosco coach Jason Negro said. “Josh is every bit as talented as those individuals.”

“He’s everything that the press has been speaking about,” Legendary Mater Dei High coach Bruce Rollinson, who coached Matt Barkley and Matt Leinart, said. “He’s a force to be reckoned with.”

“We are definitely at another level in terms of our ability to be sophisticated offensively,” Negro said. “We’re able to do so much because of the intelligence of our quarterback.”

While Rosen has been lauded for his passing skills, it’s his Jewish roots that set him apart from all the other top prospects. While he was brought up a Quaker, he had a Bar Mitzvah and attends Seder every Passover.

“My parents are pretty awesome in letting me kind of pick my own path,” Rosen said, “and letting me believe what I want to
