Everyone thinks it only happens to other people, and don't prepare for when it happens to them. Only when they wake up at 3 in the morning to their home alarm going off, and all of their possessions either gone or broken do they realize they should have owned a firearm. The right to bear arms has been a topic discussed in government and in the United States population for many years. Many people support the second amendment and say nothing major should be done to change it in any way. Others say that firearms should be banned from the general public. The right to bear arms in America has been a right to all citizens since the creating of the Bill of Rights in August of 1789. No changes should be made to the amendment for many reasons. With home burglaries becoming a greater threat in today’s world, owning a firearm is something that should be a must in protecting your valuables, yourself, and most importantly your family. One example, “Two would-be robbers gained entry to a Texas man’s home in October; however, instead of leaving with valuables, both burglars exited with gunshot wounds.”(Agee) Not only did owning a firearm protect himself from harm, but he also protected his valuables. Instead of being charged for using a gun, since he owned the gun legally and had his FOID card, he was acquitted of all charges and was let go with no penalties.
