Jackie Robinson was a hero because he took part in breaking the color barrier between people. He faced racism head-on and stood up for what he believed in. As it says in the article, he was the “first baseball player to break the color barrier in 60 years, he paved the way for many future African-American and minority athletes.” Jackie helped others(knowingly or not) through their struggles with their appearances
