Individuals who support the use of hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking which extracts oil and natural gas from the ground, believe that it helps facilitate economic growth. What happens in the process is basically that in order to reach the oils and natural gases that are trapped beneath the surface and that are blocked by the rock formations in the ground referred to as shales, we use fracking. We horizontally drill into the ground and inject water as well as sand deep under the ground with high pressure caused by the use of chemicals, which allows us to crack the hard rock formations and fracture them, the sand keeps the cracks open and this results in the release of natural gases and oils that previously were unavailable in areas. …show more content…
Fracking often times occurs near locations where there is water and due to the chemicals used in fracking the water in those locations are contaminated and the people are unable to drink from their sinks and bathe in the water at their homes. The air is also polluted when the oil and natural gas comes up from the ground, methane gas is also released, the effect helps increase the rate of global warming. The process also relies on the use of a vast amount of water and this is a waste, as we face risks of drought in many if not all regions. The benefit financially should not outshine the fact that the oil and natural gas hurt our environment and are not a permanent resource.
Individuals who support fracking have the value of economic well-being. Traditionally locations were drilled up to the point of the rock formations, not all locations had vast amounts of oils and natural gases and fracking allows many regions to have more availability to it. Our way of life depends heavily on these resources and with the increased availability of it. We allow the economies to flourish and this provides job opportunities and stability of prices. So fracking helps us develop locations were extractions of oil and natural gas were not
