Arguments Against Gun Control Laws In The United States

Gun control is the government regulation of the sale and ownership of firearms. Gun control has been a huge controversial issue over the past few years. Many people have different views and opinions on the subject which is why there is such a big debate about it. The government is making it harder to legally own a gun. Still, it has been proven ineffective as there are loopholes for people to obtain a gun. Gun control laws are not effective in reducing crime. Gun control laws will not prevent criminals from obtaining guns or breaking the law. If they cannot get a hold of a gun, they will find another weapon to take place of it. If the person is going through the trouble to commit the crime, they will do what it takes to get a hold of a weapon, whether it’s a gun or not. “Some people choose to commit crimes with the gun...That’s up to the criminals, but that’s not a problem with the rifle itself.” (Dicker). Not the gun, but the person pulling the trigger should held responsible for committing the crime. Gun control laws do not deter crime; gun ownership does. Most people do not buy a gun looking or planning to hurt others in the society. There are lots of crazy people around but that doesn’t mean more laws should be put into place if they aren’t fixing anything. There are more important things to worry about than looking to place more gun control laws. Maybe try to fix the other problems causing deaths. According to the CDC’s “ Leading Causes of Death Reports,” between 1999 and 2013, Americans were more likely to die from diseases and sicknesses than to die from a firearm (whether by accident, homicide, or suicide). “Firearms were the 12th leading cause of death for all deaths between 1999 and 2013, responsible for 1.3% of deaths.” (Terms).
