Arguments Against Imperialism

Arguments for imperialism have no logical basis, they are built upon ideologies of racism and greed. Imperialism only serves to harm those of not of the white race and hurt the lower class of America while making the rich gain even more wealth. Through the words of Carl Schurz and William Jennings Bryan one can see why imperialism is an outrageous idea with no merits to even be argued upon. Since the early 19th century American has chosen to live on the basis of “Manifest Destiny” choosing to constantly attempt to expand and while this worked well it is long overdue that this practice cease. We have run out of reasonable land to claim and to attempt to continue would only harm Americans. That is all Americans except the rich, the rich who benefit from the new markets and the influx of cheap labor and resources from these nations which we leave no other choice than to submit. They base their entire argument off of racist beliefs and have no logic or reason to back up these claims. Many of these nations are just as civilized as America and to call them “savages” or whatever other word the imperialists want to use is nothing more than racist flim flam. In William Bryan’s speech Imperialism (Flag of an Empire) he says “He never made a race of people so low in the scale of civilization or intelligence that it would welcome a foreign master” (Bryan). These are wise words, for he states a point that is inarguable. Why would God, in all of his power and knowledge, place a race on this earth that is so lesser than another that the better of the two races would have to take charge of it.
