Arguments Against Libertarianism

In this paper, I will defend libertarianism. Libertarianism is “the view that humans are able to make authentically free choices that are not determined by previous events in accordance with universal causal laws, that there is a meaningful sense that though we made one choice, we ‘could have done otherwise.’” (Textbook, p. 4.1) People are able to make their own choices by having the ability to exercise their free will.
I believe that all things happen for a reason and we are responsible for our own actions. All actions have a reaction, whether it is what we expect it to be or if it is the opposite of what the desired outcome should be. It is the personal version of the scientific method known as Newton’s Law “for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” This applies so much in our lives. If we had made a different choice, then something different would have happened as the result of the different choice you made. We have the ability to make our own choices daily such as what we are going to eat down to what shoes we decide to put on. Our lives are based on decisions that we have made. For instance, if a house is burning a firefighter will do everything possible to save a life.

The thought is inconceivable to me that someone would believe that winning the lottery is determinism. You are utilizing your free will to play the lottery and press your luck at winning. It truly is the luck of the draw. It reminds me of the game bingo as it is the luck of the draw as to which number will be called. If you happen to fulfill the requirements of the game then you are the winner, if not, then you did not win and you can freely choose to play again or give up. It is your choice. The only thing predetermined about the lottery is that you have to be eighteen years old to
