In reviewing your discussion post from this week you made some very valid points in regard to mandatory sentencing, determinate sentencing, and sentencing guidelines. I too worked a portion of my career in narcotics and witnessed first hand of the inconsistencies that you spoke of. This questions seems to be simple to answer at first, however it you have worked in the system as both you and I have, the question becomes somewhat more complex as different judgments for the same crimes are handed down from different judges.
The Washington Post recently posted a story in regard to prosecutors loosing any type of leverage they once had by doing away or weakening the mandatory sentencing laws. Supporters in favor of reforming the sentencing
