Within the United States political system, there are many rules to deal with funding for candidates influencing the outcome of state and federal elections. Political Action Committees, or PACs, have specific regulations that limit the amount of funding and donations they receive to stop a direct influence over an election. Though in recent years, Super PACs have become more prevalent within the political system. Super PACs are similar to PACs, however, they do not have donation caps, therefore they can raise and spend a great deal of money of candidate’s campaigns without restrictions. The super PACs are swaying election through media outputs, yet they do not have a negative effect on the United States political system because they do not manipulate elections or change the outcomes of elections. As elections become more competitive, the need for more campaigning and media attention increases. Candidates have increasingly begun to use social media and television ads. Voters who do not know the candidate’s history can be easily swayed be the negative ads of the super PACs. Voters who know the past and the platform of the candidate will be able to understand the attack by the super PACs. Being informed is the best way any voter can combat the super PACs and their ads. It is important for the public to be involved and, as a nation, we must inform ourselves. However, Super PACs still play a crucial role in promoting a candidate. According to King, “If Romney didn't have the help from the outside groups that he's had, this race would be over” referring to the Presidential election. Voters need to see campaigning material, but it is their duty to inform themselves. The super PACs are shown to not influence overall elections, and may help candidates. Therefore, it is up to the voters on whether to believe the
