PTSD In Our Armed Forces
A horrible diseases is afflicting and taking the life of many members of our armed forces at staggering rates. This diseases is called posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This paper will attempt to highlight subjects like What is posttraumatic stress disorder, what are the causes of posttraumatic stress disorder, and how to treat posttraumatic stress disorder. Posttraumatic stress disorder is a mental health epidemic that is caused by a traumatic event that occurred in a person's life. Posttraumatic stress disorder is developed over time, if certain symptoms are shown than you may have developed posttraumatic stress disorder. Posttraumatic stress disorder often will lead to substance abuse or other anxiety disorders.

Military members have told that they have gotten posttraumatic stress disorder from watching a comrade die in the line of duty. The reason this would cause posttraumatic stress disorder is because of the fact that the soldier affected would have lost someone that is like family because a soldier's mind his comrades are his brothers, that being said to lose someone that close to you would really affect your mindset in everyday life because that person would always be on your mind and to lose them in the line of duty would really make the soldier think about that person twice as much. The second reason soldiers have said they are affected by posttraumatic stress disorder is due to them being in an explosion of any kind. This can be a cause of posttraumatic stress disorder because it's a very tragic moment to that soldier especially if they lost a limb during the explosion because that would cause a major setback in the soldier's life, while also having the soldier have to live without the limb that the used everyday in their life prior to the explosion. The last thing soldiers have said is if they were captured, this would cause posttraumatic stress disorder and that they would think about it constantly and how they were treated during this time that they were captured. The first way is by using cognitive behavioral therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy is in which negative patterns of thought about the person. When doing cognitive behavioral therapy you will be taught to identify all the thoughts about the world and yourself that are making you feel afraid or upset. The goal is with your therapist aid to replace the negative thoughts with more precise and less disturbing thoughts. The second method of therapy is known as exposure therapy. Exposure therapy is a form of therapy were you will discuss the traumatic event repetitively so that the you learn to control your thoughts and emotions. The goal of this method is to change the way you will handle a stressful memories. The third and final therapeutic method to resolve posttraumatic stress disorder is known as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing is a method of therapy in which you talk or think about the memories at hand and while you do so your therapist will make you focus on other things such as tapping sound, movements, and sounds. While therapists are still learning about eye movement desensitization and reprocessing the main goal of this method of therapy is to help change the way you react to your memories of your traumatic event.
