Respect is a feeling or admiration that other people gain when they are doing something valuable, morally and ethically accepted by the person giving the respect. The Army value of respect means to me that I should treat people the way they should be treated and get the same treatment back, unfortunately this is not a common practice in the Military. The Army value of respect promote treating others with respect and establish guideline for you to be treated the same way, when it comes to leadership, one of the attribute that most leaders are lacking is respect, let’s begin with the facts that respect starts with oneself, if you don’t respect yourself you cannot expect others to respect you. Like my mother used to tell me, “I am not going to tell you not to smoke holding a cigarette in my hand, but I will teach you the possible consequences, and the most important thing is that I will not do it, just to avoid you following my steps”. …show more content…
Army as one of the most respectful organization in the world, my experience is very different, but no so different than the civilian world. I was expecting a unique structure across the board, however, I have come to realized that is not so different that any other organization, we have our cored values and we do things that no one else do, however when it comes to morality, ethical dilemmas and respect, we are not different at all. Leaders follows the same Agenda, make rank, make more money and be more respected. What they are doing wrong from my point of view is that they are not taking care of the soldiers, they are affecting the organization moral, and they are killing the cohesion that has kept the Army together for generations.
