Art Analysis: Sunrise, Yosemite Valley

Sunrise, Yosemite Valley is a work of art created by Albert Bierstadt made in 1870. This painting was put together by using oil on a canvas. In the painting, I see a large mountain in the background. There are small trees in the foreground that stand out tremendously, because of the sun setting in the background. The placement of the trees and the mountain give it balance. The trees (in the foreground) is the focal point of this painting. You cannot actually see the sun, however it is implied because of the yellow glow being brought to the center of the painting behind the trees. The pond mimics the colors of the mountain along with the bright colors from the sun and reflection from the trees. There is a small animal on the bottom of the painting making the whole scenery feel humongous compared to the animal. It shows that I am small and nature is giant. In Yosemite, the scene is peaceful and calm. There is a beautiful scenery that makes me want to go outdoors and experience this view for myself. It has a soothing appeal to the picture that is relaxing and hopeful. The Proverbs, has almost the opposite appeal. It is very chaotic and too much is happening in this work of art. The amount of people and animals along with fire in the background makes me feel stressed. It feels like the townspeople are rushing to get things done, which in turn makes me feel rushed. The colors between the paintings are opposite as well. The Proverbs have more vivid colors that stand out, whereas Yosemite Valley has more earthy light colors. The artist’s goals are not similar; Yosemite Valley is bringing peace whereas The Proverbs is all about action. However, both of these paintings compare in the way the artists used short brush strokes and how both the paintings are
