Art Spiegelman drew this image. He makes comic books that relates to our history in some way. He created this image in 2004 in a work of comics called In the Shadow of No Tower (“Jeff Melnick’s 9/11 Culture,” 4). This image was drawn in reaction to the terrorist attacks. Spiegelman was affected by the events of that day because his children were attending school nearby. He witnessed the towers getting attacked and beginning to fall as he was trying to make sure that his daughter was safe from all the terrible affairs that were occurring nearby. That is why he drew this image and was inspired to put his feelings and thoughts into a comic strip to demonstrate to others the way he felt about 9/11 (Versluys, 981). This image portrays what took place during the day of September 11, 2001, in three different phases. The first image shows what people were doing before the attacks occurred. They do all seem relaxed and just enjoying some television (Spiegelman). …show more content…
They are obviously in shock and cannot believe what they are seeing. Their hair is sticking straight up and their eyes are definitely stuck to the television because of what they just saw. The man’s hands are in the air and the mother has her hands on her cheeks in awe of what she is watching. The cat is even startled and surprised of what is taking place. It is evident that this has something to do with the terrorist attacks. It symbolizes the feelings of people across the country to the news and shocking events of 9/11. It also continues to bring up the thoughts and ideologies of that time and remember what was occurring on that day
