Wellington Master of Maneuver The Duke Of Wellington, born Arthur Wesley, came from a well to do Irish-English family. Although considered slow or dim witted in his youth, he ascended through the ranks of the British Army to prominence during European Revolutionary War. This essay will identify some of his leadership traits and seek to prove that the Duke of Wellington became a master of maneuver and quite a genius tactician.
Early Army Career
Arthur Wesley began his military career as an ensign through his brother’s, Lord Mornington, connections. He then borrowed money from Lord Mornington to buy commission as a lieutenant colonel and join the Duke of York (Harvey, 2008). During these times purchasing commission occurred often. Nevertheless, the Duke showed his grit during early assignments to Lord Moira and General Sir Ralph Abercrombie units at the beginning of the war with France.

Much to his discontent, he played a subordinate role to three senior leaders.
