Article No. 10 Insight “No man is allowed to be judge in his own cause; because his interest would certainly bias his judgment, and, not improbably, corrupt his integrity.” This quote is the first sentence in paragraph eight, which mentions a plethora of explicit information and opinions by James Madison, but the beginning phrase is a magnificent thought that allows the entire paragraph to be meaningful. The phrase, by itself, implies that a man has the ability to tarnish his reputation by allowing personal opinions to govern his choices. A prime example for the present decade is greed. Men can be greedy for property, wealth, and power; only because they are interested in the lavish life. “… the causes of faction cannot be removed; and that relief is only to be sought in the means of controlling its effects.” This second quote is from tenth paragraph, which is only one sentence. The miniscule paragraph is a transition from one idea, the causes of a faction, to a second idea, controlling the effects of a faction. Based on James Madison’s interpretation from the paragraph before this phrase, factions cannot be discouraged without taking a person’s liberty. The Constitution is present to this day so that people in America have liberty. The quote provides a second option; control the effects of a faction. Madison is suggesting for people determine the outcome of a faction and its power in any situation. Congress is a splendid example of how to separate each faction into a controllable situation.
