Are you someone who is extremely gullible when it comes to advertisements and the need to purchase different products? If you are, then now is the time to start considering all the artifice that is included in these advertisements. Artifice is something that is tricky, deceptive, and will convince you that you have a need for a certain product. In political theater and our consumer culture today, the most essential skill to have is deception. There is no need for competition, sincerity, and honesty as long as you are the best at deceiving people. However, there are few people out there who will argue that honesty is the best method in political theater and a consumer culture.
As for my position, I would agree that artifice, or deception, is the most important skill in political theater and a consumer culture. In an excerpt from Empire of Illusion, Chris Hedges expresses his opinion by saying, “Those who are best at deception succeed. Those who have not mastered the art of entertainment, who fail to create a narrative or do not have one fashioned for them by their handlers, are ignored.” In these two sentences, he explains the skills of those who succeed and those who fail. People will not always agree with your truth, and so in order to get people to agree with you, it is better to make up an emotionally appealing story to support your claim. This does not mean that it is better to never tell the truth. It is just better to create a new narrative in the type of consumer culture that we have today. All in all, the biggest skill for success in our world today is the ability to be able to deceive people well. If you can do that, then you are on the right path to your dreams and
