Assateague Island is a 37-mile-long barrier island located off the Eastern coast of the Delmarva peninsula facing the Atlantic Ocean. The northern two-thirds of the Island is in Maryland while the southern third is in Virginia. Assateague is an island of many things like fishing, going to the beach, and sight-seeing. Assateague island wildlife is incredible it contains over 200 species of birds have been sighted. Mosquitos and other biting insects may be abundant on Assateague from May to November and can be seen many times and be in the area all the time. In Assateague they are very known for fishing that contain striped bass, channel bass, bluefish, and flounder, many of these fish in Assateague are very well known and can be seen in many oceans but especially in Assateague. The ocean in Assateague is very good but marsh in the area is very bad and not clean. The weather in Assateague is very average in the spring it is often windy and cool with lows in the 40’s and highs in the 60’s , in the summer it is very hot and humid with lows in the 60’s and highs in the 80’s , in the windy it is damp cold and often windy with highs in the 40’s and lows in the 20’s.

Large number of people wait for long hours in a long distance from the restrooms, there are no restrooms located by the swim. There are approximately 150 ponies that make the historic swim, it is usually broadcasted by the Good Morning America Show. A Hollywood wood called ‘’Misty’’ was made which featured the Chincoteague pony swim and many residents of Chincoteague island that appeared in the movie.
