How would you like to die without knowing? How would it feel to have someone else choose whether you continue to live or whether you die? This is the life of someone who is considering assisted suicide. In the Netherlands, 61% of people who take the lethal dose for assisted suicide don’t know that they are being killed. Assisted suicide is the practice of prescribing drugs for terminally ill patients to end their own lives. Some people believe, that assisted suicide is a humane way to end pain and suffering for someone who is terminally ill. But others will say that assisted suicide is morally wrong and violates the basic tenets of medicine. Assisted suicide is morally incorrect because it violates medical morals, all doctors aren’t comfortable …show more content…
They do not even have to talk about the prescription with patients. While is it not required, by talking about why patients are considering this option may open doors to better treat them. Doctors could find an underlying medical problem that is treatable, and it could better help them. In fact, “Leaders of physician groups say that they want doctors to be able to talk about the treatment so they can properly address patients’ concerns and questions (Karlamangla 1). Bigger associations want doctors to be able to diagnose correctly, and without certain information it will not be possible. By talking with patients about why they are considering this option, it could help with prescribing better medicine to help with why they are choosing this option. While physician are not required to talk about this with their patients, it will actually help the patient much more by talking with them. With talking to they patient, doctors will have more of a chance in finding better treatment plans. To conclude, the assisted suicide law is used incorrectly, and has many flaws that come along with it. Patients should not be allowed to receive this medicine at all. Assisted suicide is ethically incorrect because it violates medical morals, all doctors aren’t comfortable prescribing the medication, and the law is being used inaccurately.
