Father- a male parent, a man who exercises paternal care over other persons. When most people speak the word father it is said with warmth and love. For others, it holds a more bitter meaning, such as: Father- the man who left me, the man who didn’t take care of me. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch took the role of fatherhood to a whole new meaning. Atticus Finch went above and beyond his parental duties and never failed to teach his children a moral lesson. His love for young scout and jem never wavered, and he made sure to set a good example for them. Atticus Finch is the true definition of the word father.

Character- the mental and moral qualities of a person. Moral- a lesson concerning the right or wrong thing to do. When thinking of Atticus Finch, these are possibly the two most prominent words that would come to a reader’s mind. Atticus has a very strong and dominant character that is defined throughout the book. Bravery can take many shapes and forms. The act of bravery can be shown through an expression on a face or the dedication shown to a cause. Bravery is an underlying theme in the Book To Kill a Mockingbird, and possibly the bravest of the characters was Atticus. One of atticus’s moments of bravery is established when he says to Scout, “You just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, don’t you let ‘em get your goat.
