To Kill A Mockingbird is a fascinating novel that never fails to amaze the people who read it. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird many vital characters grow and develop throughout the story, but countless people show consistent character traits.Atticus Finch has many characteristics but the ones that truly define him are his wise, fair, and courageous manner.

One character trait that defines Atticus is his wise demeanor. Atticus is a wise person because when Bob Ewell was threatening him he chose to evade a fight. The author states, “...but before I can live with other folks I’ve got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn’t abide by majority rule is a person’s conscience”(Lee 140). Atticus is showing wisdom here because he doesn’t let other people decide for him or his conscience, he chooses what is right. Atticus also gives advice to Jem and Scout and they look up to him. Atticus is also wise because he thinks about how his decisions will have an impact on those around him.
