Individualism
Uses of the Erotic gives readers a deep understanding of the problems with modern, urban society. Audre Lorde expresses how racism, sexism, and capitalism are a problem in our world, and why our generation of individuals need to do something about it. She feels that capitalism has affected relationships and that people see each other as objects when we should be working together rather than working against each other. Uses of the Erotic encourages individualism and explains the problems within our society.

Humans need to take pride of the things they accomplish in their life and value the power that comes within. Power is truly based on self-indulgence; believing u have power and recognizing your power. It is also based on how one-person views another, and how it affects one of them. An example would be how someone defines power; some people could believe power is based on income or the status you have in the business world. Others could believe power is based on inner self or that everyone has some kind of power in a different way. Audre encourages power and that acceptance comes within oneself.

Audre Lorde’s Uses of the Erotic gives a detailed perspective on how individuals need to express our inner desires, feelings and thoughts, and how to be proud of what we accomplish in our lives. Employment should be based on a hobby that someone enjoys or what brings them happiness, not just something that gets the job done.
