August Pullman or “Auggie”, is a 10-year-old boy born with many birth defects. From all the surgeries over his lifetime, his face is far from normal. He has trouble becoming friends with kids his own age because of his appearance and due to this, his parents homeschool him. Just before Auggie enters the 5th grade, they decide they can only teach him so much and enroll him into a local, private school. Before actually going to school, he is given a tour by three students who were asked by their principal. Each kid effects Auggie’s new school life dramatically, and more importantly effects the way Auggie looks at himself. Throughout the book, the chapters switch out into different character perspectives to share the difficulties and blessings of having Auggie in their life. Not only do you fall in love with Auggie’s pure heart, but how over time he becomes more confident in his own skin. It’s a Wonder how he does it.
