Autistic Girl and a Plane Ride There are situations in life that require someone to make a judgment call. Making judgment calls are not always easy, and deciding if the call was the correct one can be challenging. Recently, an incident occurred aboard a commercial airline involving an autistic child and her family. The pilot decided to put the family off the plane. We can examine the pilot’s decision to determine whether he did the right thing or not. Dr. Beegle, a mother from Portland, Oregon, had taken her family to Disney World. On her way back, there was an incident on the plane. Dr. Beegle has a 15-year-old daughter, Juliette, with autism, who became upset on the plane and needed to be consoled. Autism is a neurological condition that is unique amongst many people in the world. Autism is also a condition that many do not understand.…show more content… The statement was “After working to accommodate Dr. Beegle and her daughter during the flight, the crew made the best decision for the safety and comfort of all of our customers and elected to divert to Salt Lake City after the situation became disruptive. We rebooked the customers on a different carrier and the flight continued to Portland.” The statement says a few different things. For one, the airline did not just throw the family off the plane without seeing the family to their destination. Secondly, the airline picked up the cost so at least the airline did what was morally right. Had the airline not put the family on another plane and left them stranded instead, the situation could have been much worse than what it was. On the other hand, did the pilot exaggerate this situation by making an emergency landing, which therefore inconveniencing the other passengers?
