“To be free, a man must be free of his brothers.” (Chapter 12, Paragraph 15) Everyone deserves to be their own person and it's your job to find yourself, not based on anyone but yourself. You need to realize you have to be selfish sometimes to be happy and free.
Equality 7-2521 is living in the society he was born into. He is one with his brothers, they go by “we” not “I” as an individual.“We are one in all and all in one. There are no men but only the great WE. One, indivisible and forever.” (Chapter 1, Paragraph 8) He used “we” as “I” for the longest time. He does everything to make his brothers happy. He was out with his friend and they found a tunnel and he started using that as a place to write and learn new things. He eventually made an invention that he had to keep a secret. He wasn't allowed to be smarter than his brothers, he wasn't allowed to think for himself. World Council of Scholars was the place and people he wanted to share his invention with. He went there and he tried to show his invention, “Our name is Equality 7-2521, and we are a Street Sweeper of this City.” (Chapter 7, Paragraph 8) Even though it is one man who came, he refers to himself as more than one person."A Street Sweeper! A Street Sweeper walking in upon the World Council of Scholars! It is not to be believed! It is against all the rules and all the laws!" He was finally free of his brothers. He was his own person, he thought for himself and he said I finally. Freedom is a luxury for him, he is lucky to be free of that society and his brothers. “I am done with the monster of “WE”, the word of serfdom, of plunder, of misery, falsehood and shame.” (Chapter 11, Paragraph 19) He finally is done with the live his “brothers are living”. The others are stuck there because they weren't strong enough to do what Equality 7-2521 did, he stood up for himself because not knowing at the time, but he wanted to be free, to be free of the madness and now he is, his love and him are free of all the burdens from that
