Ahhhh. Imagine: The screams of a prisoner echo through the hallowed halls of the square around the god's temple. After a year of being treated royal the day of sacrifice had finally come. The prisoner slowly hobbled to the top of the temple with the priest. When they reached the top everyone stopped cheering and was silent as the priest held his blade to the sky then lunged it at the prisoner's chest cutting it open. As the prisoner oozed blood the priest grabbed his heart and held it to the sky then, kicked the prisoners dead body down the temple stairs so that the steps were covered in blood. The priest put the heart at the foot of the god’s shrine and everybody cheered except for a few women who grew close the the prisoner. To fill in the past I will write down a small timeline from aztec society. My first source is from Document A: Growth of the Aztec Empire. In this document there is a picture of a map with the person who conquered them and the dates they did. All the other land were for future “flower wars” Flower wars were a ritual war. All my further evidence will be from Document D: The scale of sacrifice. Two thousand three hundred men were killed due to human sacrifice. This ritual lasted all day. Before they were sacrificed the prisoners were treated like royalty and when they went away some of the women cried. During the sacrifice a priest sliced open the prisoner's chest and pulled his heart out raised it to the sun kicked the body down the stairs then placed the heart at the god's shrine.
