Religion has played a crucial role in society and to people, in their search for meaning, especially the perplexing questions in life. This emphasis on Religion was particularly predominant in ancient societies such as the Vikings and Aztecs. In these societies, religion was their way of life. Not only did religion answer the perplexing question in life such as how humanity came to be, how to live good and what is after death, it also gave societies a way appease their gods. Hence, giving them a culture.
One of the most important facets of life that religion explained to the Nords was how humanity came to be. In Norse mythology, this explanation was given to them through the actions of the gods Odin, Vile and Ve. The Nordic creation story expresses that the first humans, Ask and Embla, were created by Odin, Vile and Ve. They created the humans by using the trunks of the Ask and Elm trees in which Odin gave it life, Vile gave it thoughts and feelings and Ve gave it sight and hearing. It is from these two humans that the rest of humanity was created. On the whole, religion played a vital role in the Nords as it elucidated how they came to be.

Their religion outlines that there are four paradises after death which was determined by the way one died. For instance, if a person died of childbirth then they would be taken western underworld. The closest concept to hell was for people that died of natural causes such as a heart attack. They went to the northern underworld to serve the king of the underworld. Their job was to sever the underworld in total darkness. Although this was unpleasant it is still classified as paradise as they are not tortured or mentally deprived.
