Reality TV show or secretly a psychological experiment? Bad Girls Club is in fact a psychological experiment because the reality show intentionally casts mentally unstable women and then places them in a house together to endure confrontation, conflicts, and fights. A reality show should execute what reality shows claim to be: which is uncut, non-scripted, and real. The reality show Bad Girls Club does quite the opposite. After examining numerous Bad Girls Club episodes from season 14, it is evident that this show rigs “reality” and it is merely a psychological experiment. They choose these women so they can potentially cause drama and chaos around the house. This leads to constant bickering, violence, and turmoil. Bad Girls Club casts women who tend to have psychological issues that stemmed from past experiences or traumatizing events in their life. These events have had a long term effect on their behavior and choice of actions. In episode 7 of season 14 Jela expresses how her mother left her at and young age and how it has had a major impact on her ability to trust individuals. In episode 5 of season 14, Lauren tells the story of how the guilt of her brother’s death has led her to drug and alcohol abuse. These past experiences are the answers to the question of why these women act the way they do. Because these women are so mentally chaotic, it is more likely that they will undergo conflict amongst each other. The show Bad Girls Club casts seven women who are portrayed as “bad”, in the sense that they are overly vulgar, violent, and reckless. It is hard for seven psychologically unstable women with strong personalities to live in a household peacefully. There is a subconscious fight for who can be the ultimate “bad girl”. The women’s goal is to be the most dominant in the house and be able to have control over all the other women. Cast member Jela, in episode 2 of season 14, constantly reminds the women that she is the “Queen B” and anything she says must go her way. There is an involuntary fight for power in the house. Who can last the longest in the house? Who can endure the most drama without mentally shutting down? This part of the psychological experiment expresses the women’s desire to be the best “bad girl”.
Extraneous effects such as lighting, music, and transition of sequences play a huge role in the psychological experiment. Bad Girls Club has many special effects when transitioning scenes and also when there is a large altercation. The music and sound effects add emphasis to the situation and make the altercation appear more dramatized than it really is.
