The film, The Bad News Bears, focuses on a few different aspects that youth sports participant’s experience. Some of these are positive and some are negative. The positive situation depicted in the film include the friendships developed between these individuals. Unfortunately, for every positive there is a negative, in this case the negativity comes from the adults in the film. There are also times in the film where individuals compare themselves to other people.
The individuals in this film may start out playing baseball for one reason, but in the end, they get more out of it than intended. In the film, Ahmad Abdul-Rahim compares himself to his brothers and his favorite baseball player, Hank Aaron. This is a topic that a lot of younger individuals struggle with and it is important that coaches, parents and peers do not compare a child to anyone else. This is a reason that some children quit playing sports. When they compare themselves to others and do not reach the same standards, they become discouraged and quit. Ahmad tries to do this in the film but Coach Buttermaker begins to list all of the way that he is a good player and even points out flaws in his hero so he can relate.
In conclusion, the film touches on several different issues, but these are some important aspects and needed to be discussed. Participating in sports can be very rewarding for youth participants and can help them can confidence in themselves and help them develop new friendships. That being said, the negatives can sometimes outweigh the positive, so it is important as adults to not force children to play any sport and to remain
