6. I would describe Baldwin’s perspective on history as comprehensive and realistic. Unlike many people who are blinded by the positive side of the United States history, Baldwin is able to discover and analyze the negativities of history, understanding the issues reflected by historical events that seemed only brought benefits to the United States. Using historical events helps Baldwin build his ethos, increasing his credibility by referencing to incidents that have happened in the real world. Also, the use of historical events can lead the audience to comprehend history in the perspective presented by Baldwin because they are able to see the connection between Baldwin’s abstract argument with real-life incidents in this essay.
