Balm for anger is a two-way street. One direction is to act on the intense impulse of anger with a burst of fury. Balm of anger can lead to an involuntary rush of anger known as "cognitive incapacitation" (Goleman, 2010, P. 62), without taking a moment to pause and reevaluate the ardent feeling of rage. The opposite direction on the two-way street is to take a second to gather all intense emotions without acting on them. Balm of anger can be useful when learning to control an irrational outpour of anger.
