Even though, cell phones have not been around for extremely long, they have without a doubt become a key part of our life. Sad to say, many people are using their phone at the wrong time, while driving. People use their cell phone for practically everything from texting, and talking, to internet searching, etc. The reason why cell phones should be banned while driving is because a majority of drivers today are young teens and they get distracted while driving due to cell phone usage. It can distract a person’s attention away from the main task of driving and significantly increase the number of accidents each year.
Right now, there is no national restriction on using your phone while driving, but a handful of states have passed laws banning cell phones use or requiring hands free use of phones while driving, but the punishments they pass create little encouragement for drivers with the atrocious habit. “Sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds. At 55 mph, that's like driving the length of an entire football field with your eyes closed.” (NHTSA).
