Even though, cell phones have not been around for extremely long, they have without a doubt become a key part of our life. Sad to say, many people are using their phone at the wrong time, while driving. People use their cell phone for practically everything from texting, and talking, to internet searching, etc. The reason why cell phones should be banned while driving is because a majority of drivers today are young teens and they get distracted while driving due to cell phone usage. It can distract a person’s attention away from the main task of driving and significantly increase the number of accidents each year.
Right now, there is no national restriction on using your phone while driving, but a handful of states have passed laws banning cell phones use or requiring hands free use of phones while driving, but the punishments they pass create little encouragement for drivers with the atrocious habit. “Sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds. Recent research shows, a driver using their cell phone is four times more likely to clash with another automobile than a driver who does not use their cell phone while driving. “Cell phone distraction causes 2,600 deaths and 330,000 injuries in the United States annually” (Live Science). Technology encourages young adults to use cell phones while driving and is teaching them it is okay. It is very dangerous and is a serious risk for injury or death.
