Brief of “The W Agency” for Barcelona

Introduction
We, as The W Agency, have been operating in the UK since 2005. We have involved in numerous marketing campaigns that resulted in success. Currently we have been hired to come up with a plan to increase the number of tourists for the beautiful city of Barcelona.
Barcelona
Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia, which is an autonomous region, and is located in the northeast of Spain. Barcelona itself is one of the biggest cities in Spain, second to the capital Madrid. For decades, Barcelona, a city immersed in art, culture and history, has been one of the leading tourist destinations in Spain. The city offers tours of the most intricately designed pieces of architecture by the world famous Antoni Gaudí around the city, as well as educating you about the work of Picasso and Dali in their permanent exhibition halls. That is just the start of many more art related affairs taking place on a daily basis.
If art isn’t the main interest of the client, sport, food and drink might fascinate them. Barcelona has proudly been the home of one of the best football clubs in the world, FC Barcelona. With tours being available of both the stadium and history museums related to the club, it is sure to appeal to any football fan. For any clients looking for a holiday away from the stresses of work, again Barcelona can provide. The city takes pride in their national Catalonian food, as well as offering many types of international cuisine. All in all, Barcelona is a great holiday destination as it can cater strictly to your personal preference.

Objective
With a budget of £1,000,000, we intend to raise the number of tourists that visit Barcelona annually and lower the average cost per visitor by contacting agencies and tourism boards in order to persuade them to offer all-inclusive deals. The number of visitors in 2011 was 7.5 million and it is projected to be 7.3 million in 2012. By the end of 2013, we hope to see the amount of tourists visiting Barcelona to have risen by 10% for that year, to approximately 8 million international visitors.
The Advertising Campaign
Our main goal is to attract more tourists to Barcelona. The main idea we have to achieve this goal is to create a 45-second advertising clip that includes every appealing factor about Barcelona. In Europe, football is an extremely popular sport. It can even be argued that it is more than a sport. It is a phenomenon and Europe is the continent where the football is most competitive. As it is stated previously, the current Barcelona football team is considered to be one of the best teams ever. We plan to take advantage of this. We are currently in talks with the Barcelona football team. Featuring football stars like Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta in a small part of the advertising clip would create a Europe wide or even worldwide interest. However that would not be the only hook of the clip. The clip would also feature Gaudi’s architectural wonders and museums like La Sagrada Familia, La Pedrera or simply The History of Catalonia Museum, the beaches, the flamboyant La Rambla and so on. We believe this short clip, advertised properly, will prove to be most effective.
