My first example is Corporal (Cpl.). Within the past year we were all deployed to Darwin, Australia in the Northern Territory. While we were there he was constantly getting volunteered to do the most ridiculous events while everyone else stood around doing nothing. Eventually, he was fed up and decided he had enough and started to have temper tantrums or acting out. Instead of showing up on time for formation he no longer showed up. Instead of talking to someone about his problems he came up with his own solutions and he came to conclusion that if he didn't show up then no one can tell him what to do. “Repression is the unconscious blocking of unacceptable thoughts, feelings and impulses”. For two weeks we were all taking a non-lethal class and our last day was approaching fast. The last day of this training exercise you have to get oleoresin capsicum sprayed (O.C Sprayed). Then on a cloudy weekday the entire platoon was in a line on a field of grass. They were in line to get O.C. sprayed and it is the worst pain you will ever feel. For L.Cpl. Simpson the O.C. spray hit his face and immediately hated life. After two seconds his eyes swelled up, turned red and started tearing. He screamed from all of his pain and completed the obstacle course. However, if today you were to ask him about that insane day he has little to know recollection of it.
