I have chosen the film The Impossible to understand barriers in perception. The film is about a true story of a family whom were on vacation in Thailand when a tsunami struck. Since the family is from Spain communication was a barrier due to the difference in language. The situation amoung them was the many distractions and noise stated in chapter one (pg.8) in the textbook. Communication amoung them was not so strong due to the noise surrouding them. Asking for help seemed impossible for the family because of lanague diversityamoung them. Stated in the textbook that "Interpersonal Communcation Connects us to others" (pg.10). Technology was not an option for the people in Thailand nothing was working no way to call for help. We see in the film that Henry (dad in the film) decided to call his dad to explain the situation. Hernys dad asked how the family was doing but having no choice Henry said he lost the kids in the waters. Due to poor signal the father only heard that henry had lost the kids a miscommunication had risen. Cues-filitered-out theory came in play here "gestures and tone of voice are filtered out" (pg.20). Since there was not a strong enough signal among Henry and his dad a miscommunication occured. When Henry made the phone call he did not have a phone of his own but rather a stranger who lost his family lent it to him. We see that the attitude the man had was to help Henry, he believed it would be the right thing to do. Letting Henry call his dad so that he can calm down. The attitude and belief of those surrounding (pg.32) Henry was what made him keep going to each for his family. We notice that those around him were mindful they helped him out by giving him a blanket,food and
