Many modern individuals can be classified as tragic heroes. For example, Barry Bonds, a former player for the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants, is one of these individuals. Because he possesses all of the characteristics, Bonds can be classified as a Shakespearean tragic hero. Born in Riverside, California, on July 24, 1964, into a well-known, baseball-loving family, Barry Bonds was soon on the path to becoming a great athlete (3). The San Francisco Giants drafted Barry out of high school, but instead, he chose to play college baseball for Arizona State University. In 1985, Bonds was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates (5).
