Typically, these skill sets fall into two categories: hard or soft. Those necessary to work with people are known as soft skills. Others such as office computer skills are referred to as hard skills because they are quantifiable and teachable. The Executive Manager should possess the hard skills necessary to maintain the organizations’ financial sustainability and the soft skills necessary to cast a vision of compassion and viability to the centers’ agents, clients, and community. The Para-pro’s and Physical therapists should possess the soft skills needed to be compassionate to their clients. Possessing knowledge of the centers’ strategic nature will help its management team to successfully lead the organization. This knowledge gives them a sense of purpose and direction. In a like manner, investors and donors need to know the centers’ strategic areas of emphasis before investing. Not to mention the centers’ employees need to know the objectives of the organization and its future goals so they can achieve them with fervor. It is for these reasons that the Barry County Special Adult Center should place its strategic emphasis on providing a safe environment in central Barry County in which special needs adults can work to their full potential under developmental supervision.
