In the poem “Barter” by Sara Teasdale, life is a very lovely thing that is always trying to barter with someone, but what’s it worth is all up to the individual and their outlook on happiness. Teasdale gives many literary techniques all throughout her poem, from beginning to end. The first technique starts at the very first sentence with is metaphor. “Life has loveliness to sell,” (Teasdale 1) this sentence shows a metaphor but turning life into a sells person that is trying to offer loveliness. But since life doesn’t care for cash or credit cards, it’s in reality trying to barter with the individual. The next technique that’s very impactful is an alliteration. “Blue waves whitened on a cliff,” (Teasdale 3) Those repeated W sounds mirror the movement and formation of the waves, which also gives good imagery on top of everything else. The last literary technique is none other than a simile. “Music like a curve of gold,” (Teasdale 8) is a smile that does a lot in just one sentence. We are able to …show more content…

This is demonstrated with things like the blue waves of sea, fire that sways and swings, but also music, scent of pine trees, until our property, and even almost we our spirit and also thought. Those can all be seen as gifts from God. There are many simple things that we think are unimportant, because sometimes we don’t realize the value. That loveliness. But if it is suddenly lost we must try our best to find it. We buy many things and never count the cost because we really need it, more than money. For example, the beauty of nature is really undoubtful. It is rich of loveliness. We take it all for free, the sun, the air, the planet, flowers, people, and many more. But when we lose it because of our own bad habits, we will do everything to try to get it back, whether it is material or non-material things. It happens all
