Fire Support of Chipyong-Ni The Battle of Chipyong-Ni was a pivotal battle during the Korean War. It emphasized the importance of defensive planning through many elements of support. This preparation begun 3 February 1951. With the success of artillery and maneuver units working together, it would end up shaping key terrain of the battlefield of the Korean War. The cooperation between multiple maneuver units and Artillery units would eventually push the Chinese Communists out of the battle area with aggressive maneuver tactics and harassing fires of the Artillery units. With strong maneuver techniques and placement of forward observers on the battlefield is an example of the aspect of coordination that we use today to shape the operations. Lt General Matthew Ridgeway assumed command of the Eight Army. The Battle of Chipyong-Ni was a logistics nightmare to facilitate the proper equipment to fortify their positions. Through this battle, they learned on the go and had to make sure all coordination was set. They found that with proper coordination with maneuver units, and artillery they would be able to annihilate the enemy. Today we have multiple ways to plan and coordinate, coordination with all units is important to our success on the modern battlefield. Not only is coordination between logistical units important, but all supporting units to include air support. The air coordination with the Forward Observers and the Close Air Support would help make this battle successful. Where the guns couldn’t reach air assets could reach the enemy
