Fletcher, and Rear Admiral Raymond A. Spruance. The Imperial Japanese Army Commanders were Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto and Admiral Chuichi Nagumo. Prior to the Battle of Midway, the United States suffered a horrible defeat from the Japanese at Pearl Harbor The Battle of Midway was a major turning point in World War II against the Japanese.
