The Battle of the Alamo was a pivotal moment in the Texas Revolution that spurred the Texan fighters forward in the fight for independence. For 13 days, from February 23, 1836 to March 6, 1839, thousands of Mexican forces, headed by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, laid siege to the Alamo Mission Fort in San Antonio, Texas. The American defenders stationed at the Alamo, numbering less that 200 in total, fought bravely under the command of Jim Bowie and William Travis, but they were vastly outnumbered.
