Marcia Blackstock is the Executive Director of Bay Area Women Against Rape, and is one of the first three programs for victim assistance. This program was started in response to poor treatment of a rape victim from the hospital staff she was treated at, as well as, the police. BAWAR performs as a community outreach and brings awareness to not only the community, but also the justice system. The program abets as a safe place for those victimized by rape to come and receive assistance in their recovery process. BAWAR also wanted to change the perceptions society held about sexual assault and those victimized.
