To make strange. A phrase commonly used to describe how many movies can be formatted with the same basic plots, but made to be different. Two seemingly not similar movies may actually have the same underlying outline. An example of this is can be seen between 17 Again and Beauty and the Beast. One is about a father turned teenager who tries to get his ex-wife to fall back in love with him, and the other is about a prince turned beast who needs to find love in order to break his curse, and turn himself back into a man. What may not be as obvious is that they both have the same basic plots of overcoming the monster with a side of a quest involved. Mike O’Donnell from 17 Again goes from being a man in his late 40’s, to being a boy in his late teens. In the same regard, Beast from Beauty and the Beast goes from being a young prince to becoming an actual beast. Their transformations may be different, but hold the same purpose. They are given the chance to right their wrongs, and learn from their past mistakes to become a better person. Ned has been Mike’s best friend since they were in high school together. His kids even call him Uncle Ned. Ned tries to help his friend out in any way that he can, just like Mike did for him in high school. Without the help Mike got from Ned, he wouldn’t have been able to complete, let alone start, the quest his “spirit guide” sent him on. Ned can take answerability for a substantial part of saving Mike’s marriage with Scarlet. Furthermore, Beast would still be a beast had it not been for the annoyingly unwelcomed, at the time, and persistent help he got from Lumière and Cogsworth. Beast believed all hope was lost that he would ever turn back into a human, but that didn’t stop his two biggest supporters from finding a solution. They both pushed him, especially Lumière, to be a better man for Belle. They, and the rest of the staff, were always there to help him when he needed it, even when he didn’t know it himself. Without these characters, the complications the protagonists faced would have never been
