Because Of Winn Dixie Analysis

Because of Winn-Dixie is a story about a young girl who is faced with different challenges. India Opal Buloni is ten years old and just moved to Naomi, Florida. She lives in a trailer for adults only, but the owner claims she’s the only exception. Since she moved to Naomi she has been lonely, because she doesn’t have any friends and feels like she is unlike others kids.
Opal has one fear; her fear is upsetting her father. Her father is a preacher at the Church of Naomi. Opal said “My daddy is a god preacher and a nice man, but sometimes it’s hard for me to think about him as my daddy, because he spends so much time preaching or thinking about preaching or getting ready to preach”. Opal’s mom left her father and her when she was three years old because she was an alcoholic. He doesn’t like to discuss his ex-wife with Opal or anyone for that matter. When his ex-wife left he decided to throw himself into his work because he felt alone. Opal is missing her mother more and more since they moved to Naomi.

Opal and Winn-Dixie meet another new friend named Miss. Franny Block. When they first met her, they would sit and listen to her stories. One time, Miss. Franny told a real-life story about a time when she fought off a bear with a book called “War and Peace”. After meeting Miss. Franny, Opal wanted to purchase a leach and collar for Winn-Dixie, which is how they met Otis. Otis is an ex-criminal, who works at the animal store. He allows Opal to work to pay for the collar and leach. He plays his guitar for the animals to listen to the music. The last friend they meet Gloria Dump. Gloria is just like Opal’s mother, she’s an alcoholic. She is also blind but can see with the help of her heart. Opal and Winn-Dixie love going to visit
