The book Newjack: Guarding Sing Sing, in brief is about a correctional officer who in beginning of the book is a newbie or “newjack” to the job working at Sing Sing prison (Conover, 2001,10). Ted Conover explains what the process was like for him to become a correctional officer and what the academy process is like to go through (Conover, 2001). All of chapter two, titled, “School for Jailers” consists of experiences through the academy (Conover, 2001, 13-56). Throughout the entirety of the book, Conover goes back and references numerous times of his experiences from back in his academy days, as an example; back at the academy, more than one instructor had said it took four or five years to make a good CO, (Conover, 2001, 249). Conover explains
