The performance of the first movement of Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 in F Major, Op. 68, “Pastoral” was; in a sense, an example of a non-"heroic" middle-period work. The symphony was given the nickname, “Pastoral” for the reason that it gives the idea of country styled music and farms. It idealizes the countryside, as well as the idea that comes with having a simple life. Drone F Bagpipes and flutes chirping like birds are both prime example of these; since the sounds are smooth, hymn–like, and contains a motive that is repetitive. The key is usually in F, which gives the impression of the folk–like life.
