Before the invention of the hair dryer, women would connect a hose to the exhaust pipe of a vacuum cleaner so they could dry and style their hair. In 1890 on April the 30th a man named Alexandre Ferdinand Godefroy, a French hair stylist, invented the very first hair dryer ever known to man. This was a very cool contraption. It was a large seat that had a bonnet attached to a chimney pipe of a gas stove. This first hair dryer was not used in a wide range of people because it was so big and cause trouble. In 1920 on March the 5th the inventors of the Hamilton Beach Company created the second hair dryer. This hair dryer was portable, handheld. This new hair dryer was made of steel and zinc. It weighed more than two pounds. They didn’t dry hair very well because they were only producing 100 watts of heat. This new hair dryer was a rigid-hood hair dryer. This hair dryer was commonly used in hair salons. The rigid-hood hair dryer’s hood was very hard and made of plastic. This hood would go over the top of your head and dry your
