Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I belonged somewhere in health care. I remember playing “hospital” with my stuffed animals as I so desperately tried to save their lives. I always thought I would become a doctor. I imagined not only saving a patient’s life, but also being there for the patient emotionally as well as physically. When I got older I realized what I imagined being was a nurse because they are there for the patient in a way unlike any other health care provider is. My entire life has lead up to being a nurse through my childhood experiences, through moments of strife, and through my college experiences. I didn’t know how I ended up there, and was really scared when I didn’t see my parents beside me. The doctors and nurses saw my face of pure terror, and let me know that my dad was there and I was okay. In that moment they made me feel so comforted, and loved to know my dad is in my room. I found out later I had a febrile seizure (which happens when a child’s fever spikes), when my father and I landed in Florida for spring break. I took that entire experience with me because I knew I wanted to be in health care.
